Gresford Trust

Run by the village for the village

Clubs

All the clubs are independently run and have raised considerable funds for themselves.

They finance themselves and their particular specialist requirements eg. cricket are responsible for the square, the nets, their equipment, mowers etc.

The footballers look after their goal mouths and general maintenance from revenue that we receive from hiring out our facilities.

Cricket Club

There has been a Cricket Club in Gresford for at least 125 years. During that time the Club has played at various locations in the village, including grounds at Vicarage Lane, on what is now Gresford Park and at Tolley’s farm.

For about 100 years the Club’s home was the High Street ground, until it moved to the Memorial Hall in May 1997 when it was affiliated to Gresford Trust.

The Club runs two senior teams playing in the North Wales Cricket League with the 1st XI winning the League Championship in 1985 and 1989.

In addition the Club has for many years recognised the importance of giving youngsters the opportunity to play cricket, and currently has four junior teams playing in the North East Wales Leagues at ages from under 9 to under 15.

In the last two seasons, the under 11s were unbeaten in their league and last year won a competition covering the whole of North Wales.

A number of our juniors are now representing North Wales.

We welcome new players – just come along to one of our training sessions or contact a Club representative. Otherwise – just come along and watch!

Football Club

Gresford Athletic Football Club

The present day Gresford Athletic stretches back to 1946 although it is known that the club existed in the 1920’s.The club remained in the Welsh National (Wrexham area ) League until the introduction of the Cymru Alliance League in 1990-91 when it became one of the founder members of the league. Over the years the clubs fortunes have varied but recent years have brought great success. The Club was a partner with the Cricket and Tennis clubs in helping The Trust to gain lottery funding for the excellent changing facilities which all the clubs now enjoy. The Club play on land owned by the Trust and in the spirit of true sportsmanship the Football and Cricket clubs share some of the land.

Marford and Gresford Albion FC

Soccer in the village of Marford first commenced way back in 1978 when all of the boys and girls played for Gresford Youth FC who were former members of the Wrexham and District Youth League. The team enjoyed much success until the club was disbanded in 1982. After a short two year break, the club was reformed in 1984 under the banner of Marford and Gresford Albion FC and it has grown from strength to strength from that point onwards.
The Club can currently boast the fact that we have ten teams ranging from mini-football at Under 7’s through to the Under 16 side. All in all, there are over 200 boys and girls enjoying our facilities.

Tennis Club

"You don't do it like that Dad!"

The Minutes of 1952 record the fact that the new grass tennis courts, adjacent to the bowling green will open on Mayday. These courts fell into disrepair and in 1993 funding was obtained for the present courts. Club nights are held every Thursday from 6.30. Everyone can play a few sets of tennis with whoever is there on the night. The young ones hit the ball as hard as they can and the oldies run as fast as they can!!

Come and join us. Contact Trevor Clark 01244 571045 or Mrs Carolyn Crellin 01978 852084.
